Jake Boone’s Eagle Project is complete, thanks to help from the Lions Club members

Thanks to Central Whidbey Lions Club members, Bill Jones, Bill Heideger, John Burks,  Paul Weatherly Neal Amtmann, Gary Giovannoni, Gerhard Matz, Don Piercy, Steve Holmes, Scouts and Scout Dads, Jake’s Eagle Scout Project at the Ebey’s Land Trust Hammon’s Preserve of a foot bridge was completed on 24 October and 1 November.  This project is not only Jake’s Eagle Project, but is dedicated to the memory of his mom, Karen Gervais Boone, who lost her life to a drunk driver in 2008.  Jake must now complete the paperwork and turn it into the Eagle Board for Review.  Kathy will keep you posted on his progress.

Alex Bowers, Eagle Candidate Scout from Troop 4053 requested help with his Eagle project of restoring the old train luggage wagon at the Greenbank Farm from Bill Jones and Dale Zimmerman.  Project approved by Eagle Project Board. From Dale:  will be leaving for AZ mid December. The barn can be used while Dale is gone, but electric may not be available.  Alex is not currently ready to proceed with his project as of this date because fundraising still needs to be completed prior to beginning his project.  The project will probably start in January 2010 and he will need volunteer help then.

The club will recharter Troop 4053.  Scoutmaster Kathy Marley announced her retirement from the Troop effective 31 January 2010. New Scoutmaster will be Jeff Drake (has a son in the troop), and 2 new Assistant Scoutmasters, Jim Doolittle and Shinsan Griswold (both have sons in the troop) will be added.  Lion Dave Binder will continue as Charter Representative for Troop 53.

GOT CANS?…Boy Scout Troop 4053 hopes you do!

You can help YOUR Boy Scout Troop by collecting aluminum cans for recycling.  Just collect all those cans, bring them to a meeting, and give to Kathy.  Thanks to all who have brought cans to the meetings!

From PZC Ralph Nakamura, Public Relations Chair:
“Lions Day” is March 26, 2010

District 19H is proposing a District-wide project of having every club in the District participating in a Food Drive for their own communities. Central Whidbey Lions Club will have a food drive at the Christmas Party on 17 December, and we are consistently giving buns leftover from the hot dog sales to the food bank in Coupeville.  President Bill will coordinate with President Joe Walck of the Coupeville Lions for a joint “food drive” within the Coupeville community for donation to our local food bank, “Gifts from the Heart” on Main Street, in Coupeville.  More information as it becomes available.
