WATER FESTIVAL WAS A RESOUNDING SUCCESS!

The weather was great and we sold out!  Here’s the accounting for the Festival:  420 Hot Dogs were bought: 414 were sold.  (Six were dropped) 414 Buns were bought:  408 were sold. (Six were not good).
Condiments:  3 Catsups, 4 mustards, 2 relish, 1bag onions, 3 cans chili and 2 sour kraut were used.   Sodas:  200 sold:  Pepsi 39; Diet Pepsi 46, Sprit 44, Coke 51, Diet Coke 40  Water: 156 sold-out  Chips: 60 sold-out.

Net proceeds:  $1157.12.  For the first time a careful accounting of the cost of condiments bought and used showed: Average cost per hot dog was  $0.11 (eleven cents) per dog for condiments.   Dog and Bun cost is:  $.87.

Thanks to Rich and Dick and everyone who helped to make this a success!

Memorial Day “Picnic in the Park” Thank you!

We received the following letter from Carol Thrailkill regarding the Memorial Day Hot Dog Distribution in the Park:

“To the Central Whidbey Lions Club:

The Memorial Day Picnic In the Park” was a great success thanks to you.  You, the hotdog crew, did a fantastic job.  Everyone pitched right in to make it easy and a great success.  It is such a great community service project.  I hope you will plan on doing this project every year.  We need to give Ken Hofkamp many special thanks for being so generous and providing all the food and drinks.  We hit a new record this year—1,100 hot dogs handed out.  We ended up with 5 extra buns.  Four people had just the dog so we ended one bun too many.  Pretty good planning.  It was fun meeting you and working with you.  I wish to hank you for doing this community service project and I wish you much success in all of the wonderful projects you do for the town of Coupeville.”

Memorial Day Flags went up!

Thanks to Bill Heideger and his crew, Rich Scoble, John Burks, Bill Bradkin, Gerhard Matz, Jack McPherson, Don Piercy and his son Zachary for getting those flags up and flying and back down again!

Playground Project for the Town of Coupeville

The Town has received from the Navy a surplus playground set thanks to the effort of Jug Bernhardt if the Central Whidbey Lions will lead the charge and install it. Valued at tens of thousands of dollars new, the equipment is being considered by the Parks and Recreation Committee and the Town Council for the public land in Peaceful Valley. Our efforts would be the installation using our tractors, equipment and "hands-on" with help from others. Our expenses would include cement and additional fasteners and some paint. This project has the possibility of being a very visible reminder by having our name on it. Details to come as progress is made in siting and sizing of the structure.

COUPEVILLE LIONS CLUB PICNIC

The Coupeville Lions Club has scheduled its annual Club picnic for Wednesday, July 8th at 6:00 pm, at Coupeville Town Park. The Central Whidbey Lions are all invited to enjoy our hamburgers, potato salad, chips & ice cream (unfortunately, not Kapaw's).  There is no charge for the meal.  Family members are encouraged to attend.  You've joined us past years and it's always been fun.  This is our celebration for finishing another Garage Sale, thanking all the volunteers, and kicking off the new Lion Year.

1st Zone Meeting, 25 July in the San Juan Islands

Club members who will be attending the July 25 Zone Meeting hosted by the San Juan Lions Club need to let Kathy know if you will be attending for an accurate count for the caterer by 21 July.  The meeting will run 10:00 am to 12:30, at the American Legion Friday Harbor, on the lower level, and the lunch cost is $9.00.  The San Juan Club has also arranged for a 14-passenger van to meet the ferry to take those folks who might find it difficult to walk the 4 blocks up the hill to the American Legion where we will meet.  Potential Zone Projects?  Lions Kyle Hall and Carol Vincent-Hall will lead us in the planning process - consider potential zone projects that require us all to be in one spot such as this years project at Deception Pass State Park as well as potential projects that might involve each club raising some money and pooling it as a zone to buy a piece of equipment or make a zone donation, or perhaps a project day where we each do a the same project in our respective areas, etc.
